BET Gets It

On last night’s BET Awards, millions of people watched video introductions to a handful of categories: Best New Artist, Best Music Video, etc. Pretty standard for an awards show, right? Nope. All of these vids were user-generated, submitted by viewers and fans through a KickApps-powered site.

Now, I couldn’t track down the show’s exact ratings, but to give you an idea, last year’s BET Awards had around 6.6 Million viewers, making it the number one cable telecast of all time among African-Americans. No doubt this year was even bigger.

The point is that BET gets it. Premium content + UGC = an engaged and loyal audience. This is cross-channel marketing at its best, and KickApps is proud to be a part of it. Oh, and the video submissions were great–check out a few of the winners (and runners up) in the widget below.
