KickApps <3 Open Source at Linux World Expo

In CMS, Drupal, Events, Joomla, Linux World

As many of you know, we spend a lot of time working on enabling deeper levels of integration with Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress. Since releasing our single sign-on modules and plugins we’ve had a number of great websites go live which have integrated KickApps powered social & media applications into Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress powered websites.

Developers and web designers are finding that they’re increasingly required to integrate social & media applications into websites that they build. As a result, the combination of KickApps and a CMS is a very powerful one.

Which makes it a perfect time to introduce you to Mitch Pirtle (@Mitchitized and @KickDeveloper). Mitch is one of the founders of Joomla and as KickApps’ Developer Evangelist is tasked with making KickApps a developer’s best friend.

If you’re heading to Linux World Expo next week, come by and hang out at booth 1000 with Mitch, Mike Sommers, Chris Keane and Stan Shaul. If you need somewhere to rest your feet, check your email, write some code, meditate, do some yoga, come to the KickApps Developer Lounge at room 130. Or, check out the meet ups that we’re hosting in the lounge:

In Budget Travel, Deep Focus, Social Media Success, Webinar

We held a webinar today entitled: A Blueprint for a Successful Social Media Website. If you didn’t get to see it live, you can watch an archived video of the session (registration required) or if you like, simply download the slides.

The session was presented by Mike Sommers, KickApps’ SVP of Products, Ian Schafer, CEO of Deep Focus (the award winning agency that launched one of the funniest TV shows–oops, it’s not TV because it’s on HBO–The Flight of the Conchords) and Stephen Merrill, the GM of Budget Travel (probably the most innovative magazine today–their 10th anniversary issue consisted entirely of reader submitted stories and photos. Talk about UGC!

We covered a bunch of topics from setting your strategy, marketing, editorial programming to community leadership. Now we’d like to ask all of you for your thoughts, your stories and your tips. I’m sure many of you have some great ideas so please leave a comment and share what you’ve learned from your experiences. We’ll all undoubtedly learn from each other so let’s get a discussion going.
