New message alert

The new message alert displays the number of new messages a user has received since he last logged in and resets only when a user has read the message or has logged out. The new message alert does not represent the number of unread messages a user will find in their Inbox. This can cause some confusion when a user still sees a "2 new messages" alert after reading the two new messages found in their Inbox. We're working on a more intuitive system for a 2010 release, exact date TBD.
