Overview
If you enable the "Private Profiles" feature, your site's members will be able to restrict access to their profile page, whereby only their friends inside your site will be able to see it. NOTE: The site Webmaster and site Admins (not Editors) are able to view the profile pages for all of their site's members, regardless of whether or not the profile is private.
Enabling The Private Profiles Option for Your Site
You can enable this feature on the Affiliate Center > Configure > Settings > Site Settings page.
Once you have enabled the profile privacy feature, you can choose to default all new profiles to be private using the "Default all profiles to be private" radio button.
How to Make a Profile Private
Once you have enabled the profile privacy feature, your community members will start seeing the privacy radio button on the Privacy Page ( My Home > Edit Profile> Privacy Page).
They can either chose to make the profile public by picking the "everyone" option i.e. all site visitors can view their profile, or, private by selecting the "only friends" option in which case only the member, his friends, the Webmaster and Admins can see their profile.
(Note: Editors on your site can not see a private profile)
If an unauthorized user tries to access the profile, they will see a message that the profile is only visible to the member's friends, with an option to send a friend request to the member.
Note: Site Administrators cannot change the privacy settings for member's i.e. they can not turn a private profile public and vice-versa.
Private Profiles and Search
By default, all private profiles are included in general site searches.
Private Profiles and RSS Feeds
