Overview
The 3rd Party Video Embeds application allows your site members to embed videos from YouTube, Clipblast and Pixsy into your site’s blog posts, message board posts, comments, and private messages (assuming your site has these apps enabled). These are videos that are not stored in your site’s database, and are therefore not able to be moderated or pre-approved by you before they appear on your site.
Enabling and Disabling the 3rd Party Video Embeds Application
The 3rd Party Video Embeds application can be enabled or disabled in Affiliate Center on the Configure > Settings > Add/Remove Apps page. (You can get to the Affiliate Center by clicking the “manage your site” link near the top of all your site’s pages.) When you enable this application, your site’s members will be able to enter into public chat rooms with each other, where they can instantly communicate by submitting messages.
Configuring the 3rd Party Video Embeds Application
The 3rd Party Video Embeds application has one label and one explanatory text string that explains to your site members how the feature works. You can modify the label and the explanatory text string in the Affiliate Center in the Configure > Language section. Click on the edit button after you activate your particular language and then search for “from around the web” (no quotes) in order to modify the instructional text that accompanies this feature. Search for “from the web” (no quotes) in order to modify the label associated with this app.
Using the 3rd Party Video Embeds Application
When a member composes a blog post, message board post or comment for your site (or private message for another member), there is an “embed media” button at the very right of the rich text editor’s toolbar which allows them to select a photo or video from your site to embed in the composition.
When the 3rd Party Video Embeds application is enabled, there is an additional “From the Web” tab at the top of the “embed media” window (in addition to the default “My Photos,” “My Videos,” and “Upload” tabs.) Selecting the “From the Web” tab will reveal an interface where the member can submit a keyword search against YouTube, Pixsy or Clipblast’s index of embeddable videos. From the results they can choose to preview any of the videos, and embed videos directly into their composition.
When videos are embedded into a composition, they will be represented as placeholder icons until the user submits the form data into your site. Once the form data is submitted into your site, the videos will appear in the proper location on the page/post/message.
