Overview

The Userplane Chat and Instant Messaging application adds a live chat room and member-to-member instant messaging functionality to your KIT Cloud Social-powered site. Signed-in members can click the “Chat” link in your site’s global navigation strip to launch a new browser window and chat with other members of your site. The chat room can be open around the clock, or you can only enable it for special occasions, like when a guest speaker is available to take questions on your site.

Note: Userplane Chat and Instant Messaging is a 3rd party application that is distributed through the KIT Cloud Social platform, but is not managed by KIT Cloud Social. Customers who wish to customize their Userplane integration can contact Userplane support at this address: https://support.userplane.com/anonymous_requests/new

The Userplane Chat and Instant Messaging application has one default text string that you can modify in the Affiliate Center in the Configure > Language section. The “Language Editor” allows you to not only localize the Userplane Chat and Instant Messaging application to another language (Italian, French, Spanish, etc.), but it also allows you to re-position the Userplane Chat and Instant Messaging application as any type of real-time group communication application. Click on the edit button after you activate your particular language and then search for “chat” in order to modify the “chat” label in your site’s global navigation strip.

Using the Chat Feature

Signed-in members (only) can participate in your site’s chat room by clicking the “Chat” tab in your site’s global navigation strip. When the new browser window launches and the chat room authenticates, a list of site members who are currently present in the chat room will appear in the panel at the top left of the chat window. Clicking on any member name will show you details about the selected member. From there you can click to view that member’s profile page in your site.

You can initiate an audio/video chat with other members in the room by clicking the “Settings” option below your own profile photo, and enabling the chat application to interact with your computer’s microphone and/or video camera.

Using the Instant Messaging Feature

When you click the “Chat” tab in your site’s global navigation strip a new browser window launches and (after the chat room authenticates) a list of site members who are currently present in the chat room will appear in the panel at the top left of the chat window. Clicking on any member name will show you details about the selected member. From there you can click “IM” to initiate an instant message conversation with just that person. Instant Message conversations are like private chat rooms for two or more individuals.

Reporting on the Userplane Chat & Instant Messaging Application
