Film Companies Look to KickApps to Launch Viral Marketing Campaign

New York, September 25, 2006 -- Studios are looking for a new innovative (and inexpensive) ways to launch viral campaigns for their films. One studio has turned KickApps to help them establish niche social networks to generate buzz around their newest film for interested fans. KickApps is a new tech company that creates specialized social networks for specific products or movies. National Lampoon has partnered with KickApps to build a user-generated video platform and community to drive interest around their new movie, Dorm Daze 2.

National Lampoon is the first studio to launch their own online network to promote the release of a film. KnuckleHead Video (www.knuckleheadvideo.com) serves as a cross-promotional link to National Lampoon’s upcoming DVD release “Dorm Daze 2”. Because the film’s plot very much falls in line with the content on the KHV site, the best short-form user video submitted between now and September 30th will be eligible to win a trip for two to Cabo San Lucas, including roundtrip airfare and lodging for four nights. The combination of a major media company building out user-generated content on its own website and using it as a cross- promotional tie-in with a film property is a unique concept which looks be a trend as KickApps continues to work with more media industry clients.

Film distributors have begun to add viral campaigns to augment traditional ones that have not been sufficient in reaching the new generation of movie goers who tend to be their target audience. While many film marketers have chosen to join social networks such as Facebook and MySpace to promote their films, these ventures have generally achieved limit success because their messages got lost in the abundance of information on these sites. By creating their own niche social networking sites film marketers can deliver specific messages to users who have joined to interact about the movie. Studios are holding online promotions and competitions to encourage users to join and participate on their niche social networks.
