Scripps Chooses KickApps to Power Leading DIY Web Community

DIYnetwork.com Visitors Actively Sharing Their Own Projects and Stories with Videos, Pictures and Blogs just in time for Father’s Day

New York, NY — June 12, 2007Scripps Networks Interactive today announced a strategic partnership with KickApps Corporation to deploy its social media and community-building applications at DIYnetwork.com, one of the Web’s leading home improvement sites. In an area called “My Projects,” visitors can now post videos and pictures of their own home improvement work and swap stories and tips through blogs and message boards. Designed to seamlessly integrate with the site’s existing look and feel, “My Projects” is part of Scripps Networks Interactive’s continuing push to integrate community-building features into all their Web properties.

“Scripps understands that the Web is shifting away from static destination sites to ‘open portals,’ on which user-generated and editorial content coexist to create dynamic, participatory experiences,” said Alex Blum, CEO of KickApps.  “Through this project, we provide the framework for Scripps to engage and grow their audience at their existing site and in the context of the DIY Network brand.”

After just a few weeks (and with minimal promotion), “My Projects” has more than 1,500 active members, more than 43,000 total page views, and 19,000 media viewed (photos, video, etc.)  Scripps Networks Interactive plans to promote the community leading up to Father’s Day, traditionally an active holiday for do-it-yourselfers.

“Our DIY 'do-it-yourself' viewer and Web user wants to delve deeply into their areas of passion,” said Jim Sexton, Senior Vice President of Scripps Networks Interactive. “Sharing their own stories about projects they have undertaken brings much more value and satisfaction when it can be done in pictures and words.  It is no surprise our users are already responding actively.  KickApps made it fast and easy to integrate this functionality.”
